Feeling a bit murderous these days, are we? Serve up your favorite poisonous concoction in this totally awesome, but macabre DIY Drink Pitcher. Learn how to pull this off with a common thrift store find, some stickers, and some dimensional paint…
I bought this pineapple pitcher at a thrift store.. What the hell is with all of the pineapple stuff I’ve been buying lately!?!? Did you happen to catch the pineapple candle sconce I transformed into Metamorphic Skull Wall Art? Pineapples beware if you see me coming!! Anyway… pineapple aside, I loved the shape of this pitcher and thought it had potential to be something really cool. One day I was flipping through a magazine and happened upon some cookie jars by Jonathan Adler, and was totally inspired! The jars had what looked like a decanter tag carved into them. I absolutely love those decanter tags, so this was a perfect idea for my pitcher… with a twist, of course!!
Pick your poison and let’s get started…
What you’ll need to recreate this project:
- Drink Pitcher
- Acrylic Dimensional Writer
- Pencil
- 3D Foam Alphabet Stickers
- Painters Tape
- Black Paint
1. Plan your design. Measure out the dimensions of your word, so you can design the “plaque”around it.
2. Using the pencil, draw the design onto the pitcher. I used a pencil so I could erase and make corrections as needed.
3. Once you’re happy with the design, use your dimensional paint writer to outline the design, and allow to dry completely.
4. To create the “chain”, I simply dropped dots of the dimensional paint in a line around the neck of the pitcher.
5. Once the dimensional paint is all dry, add the 3D letter stickers. Start in the center & work outwards.
6. Using the painters tape, tape off the inside of the pitcher to the level where liquid would be. You don’t want anything you’re going to drink to touch the paint. I chose to drop the tape several inches below the top edge, to give the illusion that the inside is painted black. You could also tape exactly at the top edge, and leave the entire inside a different color.
7. Paint the entire outside (and taped off inside edge) black. Take extra special care to paint around the 3D letters to ensure none of the colored edges are visible.
Now mix up a batch of your best Poisonous Punch, invite a few guests, and serve up a little death!
