Here’s another Trash-to-Treasure DIY project for your holiday buffet. This is a simple way to take those cute little Christmas dessert plates, and turn them into Festive dessert stands! Talk about bringing life to something that was probably just collecting dust!!
I found this awesome little set of dessert plates at Goodwill. They came as a set of 4, each with a different design. I really loved their bright pops of color… and thought the red & green patterned ones would make a fun addition to my Christmas dessert table… after all, I do have a lot of desserts to put out!
But you know I’m not going to stop there… while these plates are certainly a nice enough find to use as is… where’s the fun in that?!?
I just happen to have quite a collection of candlesticks that I have picked up on my thrift shop adventures … that may sound strange, but you wouldn’t believe how many uses I find for them! Check out all of the pretty Cake Stands I made for my daughter’s first birthday! I pick up candlesticks in all shapes and sizes when I find them, so it was easy to pick out two that paired perfectly with my plates! In fact, you may remember these candlesticks if you happened to read my Thrift Shop Junkie Vol. 1 post!
How adorable did these little stands turn out? I love the way the cookies look on them! I worked hard on these Christmas cookies… they deserve to be shown off!! I am definitely going to be keeping an eye out for more little holiday plates so I can make more of these stands for next year! Don’t be surprised if you see a collection turn up throughout the year in my Thrift Store Junkie posts!! I may even use the other 2 plates to make some stands for other themed events…
Want to make one for yourself?? The steps are simple!!
What you’ll need:
- Dessert Plate
- Candlestick
- Paint
- E600 Glue
1. Whether you’re lucky enough to find cute dessert plates in a thrift store like I did, or perhaps you have some laying around collecting dust… at this time of year, you can certainly find new ones in just about any store you’re in!!
2. Candlesticks are surprisingly easy to find in thrift stores. I find one almost every time I’m out shopping. But if you aren’t having any luck, natural wood candlesticks are also sold at craft stores.
3. When selecting a candlestick, keep a few things in mind… the top should have enough surface area to glue to a flat surface, and it should be sturdy enough to hold the food you’ll be placing on top of the plates.
4. Clean and dry the plate and candlestick
5. Paint the candlestick. I brought my plates into Home Depot and picked out a paint chip that matched the red of the plate. I had a sample made, and that was plenty of paint for this project! … I used Glidden Rapture Red 07YR 10/489.
6. Once Dry, using E600 glue, secure the top of the candlestick to the base of the plate. Ensure the candlestick is centered.
7. Allow to sit for 24 hours
