Having a Halloween Wedding? October is, after all, such a perfect month for weddings! Or perhaps you’re simply a girl that loves skulls regardless of what month it is. I can relate! Either way, you may be looking to incorporate a few skulls into your wedding motif. These Bride & Groom Skull Signs are a perfect detail.
I find that most Bride & Groom Chair Signs can be so ordinary. And I get it… in the scheme of all the things you have to do, make, or buy in order to plan your wedding, these signs can seem low on the list. I am a HUGE proponent of the details though! I will always preach that the smallest of details are the ones that make or break any event. So, take it from me… spend a small amount of money, and a small amount of time… and make these Bride & Groom Skull Signs to bring that extra bit of character to your wedding reception.
I found these matching octagon frames at a thrift store… of course! I actually picked them up when I was on the hunt for oval frames for the Victorian Cameo Wedding Signs. They weren’t right for that project, but I didn’t want to pass up a matching pair. When I got them home I realized they were a perfect size to hang off the back of a chair. I obviously still had wedding signs on the brain. You can certainly find matching frames just about anywhere… but if you’re looking to save a few bucks, the thrift store is always a good option!
What you’ll need for this project:
- A pair of matching frames
- Black Paint
- White Paint
- Digital Male / Female Skull Image (jpg, gif, png, bmp, svg, or dxf file) – If you like the image I used, you can find it in the Meand AnnabelLeeShop on Etsy.
- Cricut Machine (and accessories)
- Black Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
1. Remove the backing and glass from frame
2. Clean glass
3. Paint frame with Black paint
4. Paint Cardboard Insert with White paint (if the insert is not paintable, you could substitute White Cardstock)
5. Allow paint to dry
6. Meanwhile, upload your image into your Cricut Design Space.
7. Select Image Type: Simple Image and Continue
8. The Select and Erase page gives you an opportunity to clean up your image, so not to worry if you pulled an image off of the internet that had some stray lines.. Erase all of that here and continue.
9. Save as a Cut Image
10. Add the image to your project
11. Send your image to cut. Design Space will walk you thru each step as soon as you click Go
12. Separate the cut image from the vinyl
13. Use Transfer Tape to adhere the image to either the frame insert, a piece of card stock, or the glass of the frame… up to you. There are easy to follow instructions that come with the transfer tape for attaching the vinyl to it….. Be VERY careful when placing the image… the transfer tape and the vinyl letters work extremely well, and there is very little room to correct mistakes!!
I used a wide black satin ribbon to tie these signs onto the Bride & Groom chairs. I simply looped the ribbon onto the frame’s picture hook, and then tied in a bow around the chair back. The method of attaching the sign to a chair will depend on the style of chair, but I think using wide satin ribbon adds a nice touch!
For this particular set up, the colors were all black & white, so I chose my paint & ribbon colors to match. You could also reverse the black & white, and paint a white frame and a white skull on a black background. I think that could look really striking! The DIY Victorian Cameo Wedding Reception Restroom Signs are a good example of using the white vinyl on a black background. If you have pops of color in your wedding, like red or purple… a colored ribbon would look pretty… or even use the pop of color to paint the frame.
