I happened upon a bag of Wilton’s Candy Cane Candy Melts while shopping one day. It is a Limited Edition flavor, so I knew I had to capitalize on the find! I had made dipped Oreos in the past, and they were always a success… so why not combine Oreos with the flavors of Christmas? It’s a Win-Win!!
The great thing about this little project is that there is NO baking involved! Don’t get me wrong… when the holidays arrive, I am the first one to tie on an apron and get to work….. but sometimes… let’s be honest… it would be nice for your kitchen to not be covered in the flour or powdered sugar from your mixing bowl or for the kitchen to not feel like 100 degrees from the oven being on all day!!
Or maybe you are just not the baking type?? Maybe your Kitchenaid Mixer is not your favorite thing in your kitchen! That’s OK…. but it’s the holidays…. and people expect cookies!! Everyone is giving them as gifts, and bringing trays of them to parties, and putting them out for Santa! Now you too can give that homemade touch to a tray of cookies!! 😉
These are simple to make… only a few ingredients and a few easy steps.
- Follow the package directions to melt the Candy Melts. I worked in small batches, so I could make sure that they stayed melted.
- Dip half of each Oreo into the melted candy. Make sure both sides of the Oreo are fully coated. I had a spoon on hand to help to smooth out the melted candy, and top off any areas of the cookie that needed more.
- Once coated, place the Oreos on a sheet of wax paper. The melted candy wont stick to the wax paper, so they will remain coated while cooling, and easily lift away once hardened.
- After each cookie is dipped, sprinkle a bit of the Candy Cane Crunch along the edge of the melted candy. Make sure to do this step while the candy is still melted, so the candy cane will adhere to the cookie. If you dip all of your cookies first, and then come back to sprinkle on the candy cane, it wont stick.
- Note – if you cannot find the Candy Cane Crunch… just use regular Candy Canes, and smash them into little pieces…. a little Holiday therapy for you!!
- Let the cookies cool on the wax paper. They harden pretty quickly, but if you’re in a rush, you can place them in the fridge or a cool place (I used my freezing cold garage), and they’ll harden almost immediately.
Hope you enjoy! Happy Holidays!!
