The embalming process is intended to temporarily preserve the body of someone who has passed. The process involves injecting embalming fluid into blood vessels. Because of the equally popular practice, for those of us still on earth, of pumping booze into our bloodstream, it made sense to tie the two together with this Embalming Fluid Punch…. the perfect Halloween Punch for that macabre party!
Did you happen to catch last week’s Dinner Party for the Deceased? Skulls, Toe Tags, Memorial flowers, and you guessed it – Embalming Fluid Punch. Not only did the punch tie in with all of my morgue / funeral home themed details…. but the red color worked perfectly with the overall tablescape. You really can’t go wrong with a red & black, no matter what time of the year!
Interesting factoid… did you know that many embalming fluids are pink or red in color? Not all of them, but many. During the embalming process blood is removed from the body…. but blood gives skin its color. So, many embalming fluids have red dyes added to give the skin a more lifelike rosy color.
I decided to use these red tinted embalming fluids as my inspiration for the punch. Whenever I create a punch or cocktail for a party, I like to play mixologist and make a ton of different samples, using a range of ingredients. I continue perfecting the samples until my gang of taste testers give the thumbs up. This time around, the unanimous winner was an extremely simple punch… only 3 ingredients. It had a nice flavor…. not too sweet, not too strong… the kind of concoction, we determined, a crowd could easily enjoy all night long. It was a bit deeper red than true embalming fluid, but hey.. it has to taste good, right?
While true embalming fluid is meant to make an individual suitable for public display….. this Embalming Fluid Punch may very well do just the opposite! Beware and Enjoy!
