Why wine bottle covers you ask…. why not? Even a wine bottle deserves to be beautiful. Did you happen to catch my post on the Horned Wine Bottle Stoppers? If so, you’ll know that I keep bottles on hand in my kitchen, full of cooking wine. And if I’m going to keep bottles in my kitchen, they may as well be bad ass bottles… Little by little I’m transforming my kitchen into a much cooler and darker space.. and every detail counts. Perhaps a kitchen remodel post could be in my future.. but for now, one remodel at a time.
While this beaded bottle cover will certainly have a permanent home in my kitchen…. the real reason I created this was with the intent to make several more for a dinner party. I’m picturing a bar cart full of black wine bottles decked out in gothic beaded glamour…. OR… a table full of black wine bottles covered in beads… and filled with dripping candles. I LOVE the imagery!!
Recently I seem to have a thing about Black & Gold. Last week I worked on that Antiqued Black & Gold Lamp for my office. The week before that I put gold cupcakes on my Black Beaded Cake Stands. This past month, I bought black & gold chairs for my dining room, black & gold end tables, and gold lamps. And now I seem to have Black & Gold Dinner Party on the brain!
These beaded bottle covers would of course be beautiful in any color… so depending on your kitchen or party theme… you can create these to match.
Step by Step Tutorial:
What you’ll need:
- 168 Small Beads (I used 3mm)
- 12 Medium Beads (I used 8mm)
- 4 Teardrop Beads
- 40 6mm Jump Rings
- 180 3/4″ Eye pins
- Round Nose Jewelry pliers
- Wire Cutters
1. To get started, create 8 of what I’ll call beaded eye pins. To do this, thread one small bead onto the eye pin. Using your pliers, form a loop at the straight end. You may have to trim the eye pin first so the bead isn’t too loose between both loops.
2. The beaded eye pin will look like this once you’re done.
3. Connect the beaded eye pins by using 8 jump rings. The jump ring should connect the ends of 2 beaded eye pins, until you form a complete ring. This will sit on the neck of your bottle.
We’ll build the beaded cover from here.
Note – These instructions may become difficult to follow, so I highly encourage you to use the photos to follow the pattern of the beads and chain!
4. Create 8 strands of chain that consist of 2 small beaded eye pins, a jump ring, and one more small beaded eye pin.
5. Attach 2 of these strands to every other jump ring around the base of the neck (the double beaded eye pin will be at the top).
6. Using a jump ring, connect the last beaded eye pin of two of those strands to form a V. Repeat until you have formed 4 equal V shapes hanging from the neck of the bottle.
7. Create 8 strands of chain that consist of 6 small beaded eye pins
8. Attach 2 of these strands to the jump ring at the tip of the V you created in step 6. Repeat on all 4 jump rings.
9. Using a jump ring, connect the last beaded eye pin of two of those strands to form a V. Repeat until you have formed another 4 equal V shapes around the bottle.
10. Create 8 strands of chain that consist of 2 small beaded eye pins.
11. Attach each strand to the jump ring in the strand you created in step 4.
12. Using a jump ring, connect the last beaded eye pin of two of those strands to form a V. Repeat until you have formed another 4 equal V shapes around the bottle.
13. Create 4 beaded eye pins using the medium size beads
14. Attach each medium beaded eye pin to the jump rings.
15. Create 8 strands of chain that consist of 4 small beaded eye pins.
16. Attach 2 of these strands to each of the lowest hanging jump ring from step 9.
17. Using a jump ring, connect the last beaded eye pin of two of those strands to form a V. Repeat until you have formed another 4 equal V shapes around the bottle.
18. Create 4 strands that consist of 2 small beaded eye pins, and one medium beaded eye pin.
19. Attach each strand to each jump ring from step 17. (the small double beaded eye pin will be at the top)
20. Create 8 strands of chain that consist of 3 small beaded eye pins.
21. Attach 2 of these strands to the same jump rings you just attached the strand to in step 19. (Attach on either side of that strand)
22. Using a jump ring, connect the last beaded eye pin of two of those strands to form a V. Repeat until you have formed another 4 equal V shapes around the bottle.
23. Create 4 strands that consist of one small beaded eye pin, one medium beaded eye pin, and another small beaded eye pin.
24. Using a jump ring, attach a teardrop bead to the end of each of the strands you just created.
25. Attach each strand to each of the lowest hanging jump rings from step 22.
Voila!! I know… tedious! But I definitely think it pays off to build this to cover almost the entire bottle. I have seen other versions of this that simply went around the neck of the bottle, and I just don’t think it has the drama! BUT – as you can see.. it’s easy to change up the design of this anyway you want.
In fact, as I build more of these, I’m thinking I’ll make a few different versions of the design, so each bottle is unique. Stay tuned for my Black & Gold party set up!!
