There’s no better way to welcome all of those little Trick-or-Treaters than a spooky front entrance! Make it past the eerie webs of spiders, the ghostly skeletons, and the chilling crow….. and what waits on the other side? LOTS of Halloween candy!!
Welcome to the entrance of my Halloween House! This year I decided to go for something subtle. Here’s how I put it all together…..
No Halloween entrance is complete without pumpkins…. orange and white, big and small, traditional and heirloom…. I love them all! As soon as pumpkins become available, I start collecting. The beauty of pumpkins is that they look great at your front door whether you’re decorating for Halloween, Thanksgiving, or just Fall. Get them early, and use them all Fall! I also mixed a few rodents in there just for Halloween!
To add a little spook to my front door, I made this Grapevine Crow Wreath. Click here for more details on how to make this wreath. The wreath holder on my door happened to be red, which obviously didn’t go with the rest of my decor. So, I found some black raw edge ribbon, and using a little tape, I simply wrapped and secured the ribbon around the holder.
I have an affinity for anything that looks like it may have belonged in a medieval or Victorian castle. This bodes well for me at Halloween time, because so many of the pieces I already own lend themselves to the dark flare of Halloween. These antique black Lion Head urns were one of those special finds. I also happen to love anything with a Lion’s head on it… so I really had to pinch myself when I found these at Scott’s Antique Market! They weigh several hundred pounds which makes them a fairly permanent fixture of my front porch. My husband would likely kill me if I asked him to move these again! Lucky for me – they work perfectly as a perch for my skeletons!
I bought these skeletons on sale at a local drug store a few years ago. After Halloween, so many stores will mark their merchandise way down. I was lucky enough that two of these were left on the shelves that year! You can always find full skeletons like these at big box stores as well. I love the fact that they are full size! They look almost real!! For this set up, I filled the urns first with floral foam, and then moss. These skeletons are just sitting comfortably on top!
For the haunted trees, I simply went into my backyard and found several branches that had fallen. I made sure the ones I chose had lots of spindly limbs, and then I trimmed any excess limbs off of the bottom to give me a “post” to insert into the urn. Using a Gloss Black Paint, I spray painted the branches. Once dry, I inserted them into the floral foam and arranged them in the urns. Then I draped them with some spider webs and velvet spiders.
To top it all off and provide the true Trick-or-Treating experience…. I hide a CD player in the bushes and play spooky music! Here are some ideas of bone chilling tunes . Download one or all… and you’ll be sure to scare your visitors!
