It’s that time of year…. shopping, baking, decorating… and oh yes – Holiday parties! So many Holiday parties! What’s a girl to wear?!?
I dont know about you, but I feel like December always calls into question how much red or green I have in my closet! There’s just something about the holiday season that makes everyone want to dress up festive!! I’m all for it! But there are a lot of choices out there! Do you go all out in a Santa Suit? Play it safe in a red dress? Dress it up in some velvet? Be funny in an Ugly Christmas Sweater? Choices, choices!!
Every year, I attend an annual Santa Claus Pub Crawl. The party goers go ALL OUT when it comes to costumes for the occasion! This year I decided to go for simple, but flirty, festive fun! The beauty of this years outfit is that it is wearable to any holiday party… when you’re in the mood to show some extra holiday spirit that is!!
This outfit is simple to recreate, and you probably have most of the pieces in your closet already. I’m more of a “black Santa fur” kind of girl… so I chose a black turtleneck as my top. When choosing your top, just look for something with a slim fit because it needs to tuck into your skirt without being bulky…. Those bodysuits that are so popular right now, would be perfect! In fact.. I think I better go buy one for the next time I put this skirt on!! Next, I wore black leggings…. it’s cold in my neck of the woods, so I needed to cover up my legs! You could wear tights… but a word of warning – the skirt does not always provide full coverage!! I wore my favorite chunky black booties, but any black boots will work!
OK, so now that you have your basics (and you’re looking more like a cat burglar than Mrs Claus), it’s time for some DIY fun. The red skirt is simple to make. You can find the step by step instructions for recreating a tulle skirt in the DIY Bumble Bee Costume post. I used red tulle, and red waistband elastic. I purchased a spool of tulle 6 inch x 100 yards, and used the entire spool. For my skirt, I cut the strips of tulle at 34-35″, so my finished length is about 17″. If you want your skirt shorter or longer, adjust as needed.
To top this outfit off… I found a Santa hat trimmed with black fur. You can find these at any party store. Lastly, I added a black belt to cover the waistband elastic…. and to give a bit of a nod to Santa’s big belt & buckle!Hope you enjoy!!
