Spring has arrived! Despite being way more of a Fall kind of girl, I do try to appreciate what each season brings and one of Spring’s most popular gifts are all of the beautiful flowers. No shock to any of you, typical Spring colors are not really my thing, but when there’s a will, there’s a way… and I found a way to mix the elements of Spring Flowers with my dark style… Floral Skull Ice Cubes.
I love adding a touch of my style to everything I do.. even a simple cocktail! You have to admit….. enjoying that afternoon lemonade or evening martini is a hell of a lot better with a skull floating in it! Or invite your crew over for a lunch and give them a little surprise when they sip on their long island ice tea!
These skulls may look somewhat similar. A couple months ago, I shared my recipe for some delicious Raspberry Filled Chocolate Skulls. I used the same fantastic Skull Mold for both projects. I am obsessed with this little gadget! I use it so often I bought a few of them, so I can have different creations going at the same time! My freezer is full of skull concoctions! More of those to come!

What you’ll need:
- Skull Ice Cube Mold
- Small Silk Flowers
- Water
Trim the flower off of the stems
Wash the flowers
Fill lower tray of the skull mold half way up with water
Lay your flowers into each of the four skull cavities.
Once they are settled, fit upper tray into lower tray and gently press down until water comes out through the small holes on top and inner grooves are interlocked
Freeze for at least 6 hours
When it’s time to remove the cubes from the tray, I would normally tell you to twist the trays and break up any ice layered between the trays, but for this project, you actually have to be very cautious of breaks in the skulls. I have made a lot of ice cubes with these trays, but this is the first time I’ve seen consistent cracks in the ice. Its safe to say it’s the fault of the flowers. I don’t mind the cracks.. it gives them character… but you definitely have to be more careful when removing them from the mold.
If there are any jagged edges or overflow at the seam line, very carefully hold the protruding ice under running water, and it will melt and smooth immediately. Just be careful not to allow the running water to melt the head of the skull.
These skulls can be placed in a container or plastic bag and kept frozen until ready for use.
