If you are a Gothic or Halloween bride to be, I have no doubt that you are well aware that Halloween is right around the corner! OK, technically that big day, is still months away, but believe it or not, store shelves are already beginning to burst with Halloween decorations. This is critical information, why? Because it is the perfect time of year to be on the lookout for inspiration for your wedding…. like these DIY White Vampire Skull Mirror Wedding Table Numbers.
I am not the type of wedding planner that would literally decorate a reception straight from the aisles of a Halloween store. Not my style. For me, I love those subtle touches and hints of gothic elegance at a wedding reception. It’s what allows a gothic or Halloween themed wedding to stay on theme without becoming overly cheesy. There is a line that can be easily crossed, and it’s certainly up to each bride with how far past that line they want to go. These particular Table Numbers allow you to add that subtle touch.
Last year, during the Halloween shopping frenzy, I picked up these Vampire Skull Mirrors. Gorgeous as is, I know, but I immediately had another idea for them. I happen to be partial to a black & white wedding, so I envisioned these rounding out a chilling yet elegant black & white centerpiece for each reception table. These are simple to make with some paint, and a Cricut machine. The trick is getting your hands on them.
I happen to know that the store Homegoods has carried them every Fall for the past few years. I’m taking the chance that this year will be no different. So, I wanted to post this tutorial now, so any bride out there that wants to replicate this idea can mark their calendars and hit the stores when all of the Halloween stock arrives. In every town, the Halloween truck hits Homegoods on different days, but it tends to happen in the first week or two of August. Their Halloween stock goes quickly, and they only get a few “Re-stock” trucks, so don’t delay if you want to collect enough of these for your reception. You may also want to put feelers out to friends in other towns, as I also know every town gets different merchandise. Interestingly, Kroger Grocery Stores also carried a silver version of this mirror during the 2017 Halloween season. I will certainly be stalking all of my nearby Homegoods & Kroger stores, waiting for the trucks to arrive with the Halloween merchandise, so feel free to follow me on Instagram (MeandAnnabelLee1) if you want updates on my findings!
What you’ll need to recreate these Table Numbers:
- Vampire Skull Mirror
- Magazine pages
- White Paint
- Glue
- Cricut Machine (I used the original Cricut Explore, but there are new & improved versions out since I purchased mine years ago)
- Cricut Tools and 12×12 Cutting Mat or 12×24 Cutting Mat
- White Craft Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
Start by removing the black velvet backing from the back of the mirror. This is attached with adhesive, and isn’t too difficult to peel away. If you accidentally rip it, you can always buy additional material, and cut to size. And if you’d prefer an all white look from the back, replace the black with a white backing.
You are going to be using your magazine pages to cover the mirror so you can paint it. I like magazine pages, because they are firm enough to slide between the mirror and the frame, and protect the mirror.
You’ll need to tear the pages into smaller pieces and carefully insert between the frame and mirror all around. Cutting the pages into pie shape pieces help to fit the pages into the curved edge. You should be able to slide the page just under the frame, so there is no risk of seepage. Continue to overlap, and tape until the entire mirror is completely covered.
Paint the entire frame white… front & back
Once the paint is dry, remove the magazine pages, and reattach the backing using a line of glue.
Now for the vinyl numbers…. Determine the number of tables you will have at your event, and type all of the numbers into Cricut Design Space using the Text Tool.
Choose a font that suits your style. I used Algerian.
Resize the numbers to fit the mirror. Be aware that once you get into double digits, the font will be significantly smaller, and depending on the font you choose, some numbers will be much taller or wider than others . Instead of choosing a uniform font size, I like to choose a height, and resize each number to be the same or similar height. For a project like this, I feel that approach gives more consistency among the table numbers. The number height I used for these mirrors was 4″.
Ensure your text is set to cut.
Load vinyl into your cricut machine
Click Make It to send your image to cut.
Set the Material Size based on your vinyl and your mat. Cricut will rearrange all of your numbers to fit accordingly.
Design Space will walk you thru the remaining steps as soon as you click Go.
Separate the cut image from the vinyl.
Use Transfer Tape to adhere each number to the center of each mirror. There are easy to follow instructions that come with the transfer tape for attaching the vinyl to it.
A word of warning… the transfer tape works well, and does not tend to offer second chances so take your time to apply carefully.
Use the Burnishing tool to ensure the vinyl is secured to the mirror, and remove the transfer tape.
All set to arrange the tables! If you like how I arranged the table numbers as a centerpiece….. here’s a tip on recreating the look….
I bought a bunch of candle sticks from thrift stores… all different shapes and sizes. I did my best to find ones with some ornate carved details. Then I simply cleaned them all up, and painted them with white chalk paint. It’s not everyday that I bust out the white paint, but it was totally worth it for this table setup.
I arranged the candlesticks around the table numbers on the center of each table, making sure to have a variety of heights at each table. Then I placed black taper candles, and varying height black pillar candles on each candle stick. I’m infatuated with how it came out. If I had it to do all over again, I’d absolutely redo the centerpieces at my wedding to look like this. It really is an inexpensive way to have a chic, yet gothic table.

This is so eerily elegant, Alex and as much as I love black, I do think the white makes a stylish change. We were lucky enough to get these mirrors in the UK last Halloween and I really like them one colour. Gorgeous work as always. Sue x

Thanks Sue. Yeah – I’m always so quick to paint everything black… but there was just something about the white for these ones that I love!
