The ultimate in sophisticated dark entertaining… Wow your guests with this Black Domed Cheeseboard Pedestal. Whether you’re looking for a way to serve those special cheeses or just a pedestal to display your favorite oddities… this project has you covered…. literally!!
There’s nothing better to me than a project that truly starts out as trash and ends as a beautiful treasure! And what’s even better about this project is that it’s made of two commonly found items from thrift stores or garage sales…. those old wooden cheeseboards with the glass dome, and a candlestick.
If you’ve ever shopped at a thrift store you have undoubtedly come across one of those domed wooden cheeseboards…. why?.. because EVERYONE owned one in the 80’s….and now they are completely outdated.. and no one wants them anymore. I’ll be honest.. I still have mine from back in the day… but then again, I am still a huge fan of cheeseballs. These suckers are perfect for cheeseballs!! Just wait until those balls of cheesy goodness make a comeback – you’ll be lucky you snatched up one of these wooden boards!!
A candlestick is another find that you’ll come across time & time again at thrift stores and garage sales. If you’ve read my past blog posts, you might already be aware of my fondness for candlesticks. I am always finding creative uses for them… like this Black & Gold Cake Stand!! The most important thing to look for when shopping for candlesticks is the surface area of the top. You want something that is sturdy enough to hold the weight of whatever you are going to top it with, without toppling over. The chunkier the candle, the safer it will be!

Supplies you will need for this project:
1. Prep your board and candlestick…. sand, clean, dry, remove appendages, etc… whatever you need to do to prepare for painting. Make sure you have a smooth surface. If your candlestick has a candle spike or the wooden board comes with rubber feet… make sure to remove those too.
2. Paint the candlestick and wooden board. I used a brush to paint the pieces with a flat black paint. Whether you use gloss or matte is up to you.
3. Once dry, using E6000 glue, secure the top of the candlestick to the base of the wooden board. Ensure the candlestick is centered.
4. Allow to sit for 24 hours.
Now invite over some of your wickedly cool friends, and impress them with your even more wickedly cool Domed Pedestal!
A note of warning…. Food should not be placed directly on a painted surface. I always use a piece of black butcher paper, or some black doilies.
If you’re not the party host type…. don’t forget… a Cloche Pedestal can’t help but provide an air of mystery to any object that lies beneath…. And if you’re oddities are too big for the glass dome, the pedestal makes for an excellent display stand!
If you’re the hostess with the mostess, these Black Cupcake Stands or this Rockstar Lazy Susan are also for you!!
